A brand new create-a-player experience in FIFA that inspires the fearless creator to customize their avatar and squad like never before.
Overview
The old create-a-player experience in FIFA was outdated and had not been changed in many years.
It required our players to create avatar’s from scratch with little visual aids to help them get started. The content did not inspire creativity nor did it do a good job representing authentic diversity.
The Challenge
How might we promote diversity and inspire creativity in our new create-a-player experience?
Diverse templates to start you off
Upon entering the create-a-player experience you are presented with 10 unique diverse avatars to get you started. These players have a mix of different facial features, hairstyles and skin tones/textures.
Facial morphing for even more personalization
Take your avatar to the next level with our newly designed facial morphing feature.
You can further customize your avatars eyes, nose, jawline and more by simply using the L & R stick. Instantly see the features change!
Show off your creativity
Customize as much or as little as you want with clothing, hairstyles, tattoos and even celebratory emotes! For the first time ever, you can also equip all clothing on both genders.
A visual customization experience
Our new interface has preview images, players can now see their options at a glance.
The new customization screen is broken into 3 main sections: Navigation, Content, Contextual Buttons.
Navigation
The navigation is made up of main tabs, categories and sub categories. These filters allows users to quickly find what they want.
Content
The content lives within a grid system using the FIFA flux tile design. We enabled scrolling to move to the right so players can maintain the ability to quickly navigate up and down each section.
Contextual Buttons
The buttons are designed to be contextual to whatever category you’re in. So, if you’re customizing Eyes, you’ll find options to change eye colour as well as access the eye morphing tool.
Give players the tools to make the game their own
When players were presented with the option to select a template or customize further, 90% of players went into further avatar customization. About half of those users went on to spend additional time making themselves into their Avatars.
