Shift is a digital journal used to document and track the progress of how your ideas evolve over time.
Overview
This was my final year school project and was created because I saw the value in documenting process work. It’s a great way to reflect on how your ideas evolve.
The problem is, documenting process is hard. Our brains pivot quickly and its easy to forget or lose track of the decisions we have made.
The Challenge
How might we create an easy to use tool that makes documenting your work feel like a breeze?
The 6 Key Frustrations
I conducted a variety of user research including interviews, online surveys and in person observations of people from different creative disciplines. Through this research, I discovered 6 key frustrations.
After defining the features of the app, I mapped the customer user flow.
What are all the touch points, starting from the landing page to signing up and logging into the app for the first time?

I kept the brand identity fairly simple and clean. Shift should feel like a fresh sheet of paper, easy on the eyes and full of possibilities.

Seamless interactions between devices
With a seamless interaction between devices, Shift’s mobile app is used as an easy way to collect and upload data directly into your project folders.
If you’re on the go, just open the app to view your project calendar and current tasks. Once you’re home, open the web app and find all your data already in app. Take the pieces you gathered and organize it into your project journal.
A self contained project space
Import your data into the project space folder and it’ll automatically group your content by images, videos, recordings, places and files. Never lose your work again because it is all saved to the cloud.
Documenting your work is easier than ever with the simple drag and drop interface. Use the builder to drop pre-built formats into your journal, then drag your content into place.
Since all your content was already uploaded into your project folder, you wont have to worry about uploading them one by one when adding them in.

As you add pages into the journal, your project timeline grows. Hit the star to mark milestones in your project.
View it in timeline preview mode to get a collapsed overview of your project; filter by month, year or milestones.
Visualize your due dates and track your tasks
Easily add tasks onto your virtual to-do list and set alerts for important deadlines you need to remember.
Everything is accessible from the dashboard and easy to see on your calendar.
