TableTop is a digital menu discovery app, connecting real time reviews and pictures, directly to the dishes; one to one.

Overview

This is a passion project born out of my frustration. I noticed that whenever I was looking for a place to eat, I had trouble locating the restaurants menu.

Often times, the link would be broken, the menu was not optimized for mobile viewing, or I had trouble matching reviews to the dishes.

The Challenge?

How might we make the menu viewing experience more valuable to users?

Understanding our competititors

I conducted a competitive analysis on apps such as Yelp, Zomato, Open Table, Sirved, Google Maps and Uber Eats to outline their strengths and weaknesses to help identify opportunities.

Most apps had inconvenient menu’s that required users to open up a website to view it. I also noticed reviews were never tied directly to the menu items, making it difficult for consumers to discern what was what.

Understanding our consumers

Next, I created a online survey and conducted some user interviews. Although this pool of data is limited, it still helped me gain key insights.

I created a sitemap to help map out the apps 4 main pages: Search, Randomize, Profile and Settings. I then created clickable wireframe prototypes to begin visualizing the UI of the screens.

Mapping the user journey

Brand Identity

Inspired by the warm and inviting feel of food. I designed a fun look with lots of rounded edges and soft curved typography.

This final feature set was designed with this question in mind, how might we satisfy the needs of the consumers while driving more business to the owners?

The Outcome

Categories that suite your needs

Food is a special event that bring a multitude of people together. Whether you’re interested in a specific cuisine, have a large party or have dietary restrictions, you will find a menu suitable for you.

A menu right at your fingertips

Hurrah! No more broken links or opening up another website. With Tabletop, you can see their top selling menu items, and easily browse through the different categories and find accurate prices.

Reviews linked one to one

See real reviews by clicking on the menu item. Yes it is that easy! Gone are the days of trying to match reviews to the right dish.

A randomizer for the days you just can’t decide

I think we can all agree, we have had days where we just can’t decide on where to eat. Let’s make things fun, use the randomizer!

A loyalty card to keep you coming back for more

A great way to be rewarded for your loyalty and a great way for restaurant owners to get you coming back for more. It’s a win-win!

Insights & Takeaways

Consumers want it!

After testing it with friends and colleagues, a few asked if it was available for download. There truly is a market for this app and consumers would be interested in using it.

Iterate and improve!

This project was fun to tackle and solve. Although this is only it’s first iteration, I feel like its already resolved the main pain points consumers have. Now its about more testing and iterating in order to tighten up the UX for a truly seamless experience.
